ABSTRACT
The cyanoacrylates was synthesize for the first time in 1949 by Ardis, Coover and cols. They describe their adhesive properties and suggest their possible use as surgical adhesives. At the first half of the 60's, began their applications in wounded organs because sealant and haemostatic properties, after the anastomoses without suture at the digestive tract and vascular reinforcement the intracranial aneurisms, fracture repositioning, etcetera. The wound closure with the use of the cyanoacrylates was documented approximately 10 years after their development. As a result, the use of the tissue adhesives should be limited to low tension lacerations and surgical incisions. These adhesives could be used at wounds with low degree of tension, but the use of deep sutures that relief this tension and stabilization. This document reviews the use, indications, advantages and disadvantages of the use tissular adhesives in the several specialties of the medicine.
