Council benefits for social workers

The article reports on the reduction in the vacancy rate of children's social workers at Cambridgeshire County Council in England since the introduction of a total reward package in 2007 according to Stephen Moir, the council's director of people and policy. Moir said high vacancy levels and use of agency staff at his council indicated a national skills shortage and recruitment and retention problems in the sector. Using pay bands to aid career development, the council reportedly increased investment in training and changed the way people progress.
