Reports on a study of the relationship between air pollution and daily mortality in three U.S. counties, Cook County, Illinois, Los Angeles County, California, and Maricopa County, Arizona. Monitoring information on particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone; Indication that air pollution was associated with each of the mortality end points; How the gases, but not ozone, where more strongly associated with mortality than was particulate matter.
