ABSTRACT
The article discusses the national indexing standard that was created by the China Society of Indexers (CSI). The index is being applied to a national database that will be released in April 2009. It is noted that technological innovations have made it easier to make electronic database indexes the norm. The CSI used the indexing standards that have been laid out by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1996. College teachers Huang Xiuwen and Hou Hanqing are credited with working on China's indexing standards.
