ABSTRACT
The article reports on the study conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) that examined the Essential Air Service (EAS) program. GAO has found that the difficulty in providing subsidized air servcie has increased due to requirements for aircraft size and frequency of flights and the continued urbanization of the country. It recommends that there is a need for the Congress to reexamine the EAS program and the Department of Transportation (DOT) should assess its practices.
