ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the weaknesses of the U.S. federal agencies in securing sensitive data, including theft, loss or improper disclosure of personally identifiable information. Despite the reports of several federal agencies regarding their implementation information security control, inspectors found many shortfalls of how these security requirements are being applied. Moreover, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommended several suggestions to address these shortcomings.
