ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the representation of stories of literacy through tattoos of African American youth Derrick Todd. He says that the tattoos of Todd reflect his cultural identity that cannot be expressed through paper. He adds that the tattoos tell the struggles and stories of Todd as a minority. Todd says that his tattoos in memory of his dead cousin gave him strength to deal with his loss.
