ABSTRACT
The article discusses the challenges of being a journalist in Iran. It cites the story of Roxana Saberi, a journalist who was detained in Iran in January and was released in May 2009. According to Iranian press laws, reporting without a permit means illegal gathering of news which can lead to suspicion of spying. According to the article, foreign journalists can be more frank on dealing with issues in Iran. The article discusses Iranian journalist Azadeh Moaveni, who wrote freely outside Iran and returned to the country without trouble. The article speculates on the reasons for the arrests of semiforeign reporters in the country in terms of U.S.-Iran relations.
