ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study by securities industry researcher Tabb Group on operational risks and how these have led financial firms to increase enterprise controls over business critical spreadsheets in 2009. The study was based on a survey commissioned by Excel spreadsheet software maker, Microsoft of North American brokerages, banks, asset managers and clearing firms. According to Adam Sussman, a director at Tabb, the firms are trying to balance the flexibility of Excel with proper management and controls over the information on these spreadsheets.
