Studies the NIR-to-VIS upconversion mechanisms in the Er[sup 3+] doped low energy phonon host material RbGd[sub 2]Br[sub 7]. Effect of the energy difference between the first and second excitation steps on situation of excited state absorption and energy transfer upconversion processes.
