Develops a novel type of apparatus for materials testing in high-pressure hydrogen at low temperatures. Apparatus consisting of a pressure vessel and a hydraulic loading system; Measurement of the actual load on the specimen with an external load cell irrespective of the axial load caused by high pressure and friction at the sliding seals.

The reforming of methanol is acknowledged as a convenient means to generate hydrogen for a PEFC due to the low temperature (<280 °C) at which the reaction occurs and the low CO content of the reformate. However, the catalyst is prone to deactivation in the upper range of its operating...

The possibility of achieving the high density of negative hydrogen ions N[sup H-] in a low-voltage cesium-hydrogen discharge is investigated. The N[sup H-] density is determined experimentally from the absorption of laser radiation due to the photodetachment of electrons from H[sup -] ions. The...

We have demonstrated that the molecular hydrogen obtained from atomic recombination at 300 mK has nonstatistic ortho–para ratio. The ortho para conversion is less than 3% in the vibrational relaxation phase. We suggest that it is possible to carry out detailed comparison between...

E158 is a fixed target experiment at SLAC in which high energy (up to 48 GeV) polarized electrons are scattered off the unpolarized electrons in a 1.5 m long liquid hydrogen target. The total volume of liquid hydrogen in the system is 47 1. The beam can deposit as much as 700 W into the liquid...

Propagation losses are paramount to the performance of microphotonic devices. In silicon photonics, the expected contribution of known propagation-loss mechanisms is often insufficient to account for all the observed loss. Here, we identify a loss mechanism that we believe has not yet been...

Recent experiments by Lauhon and Ho using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) observed the direct hopping of H and D on Cu(001) as a function of temperature. They found nearly temperature independent tunneling for H below 60 K, but could not detect the tunneling threshold for D (it is at least...
