An apparatus that permits the observation of liquid CO2 particles in a simulated deep-ocean environment was designed, modeled, constructed, and tested. Analysis concerning the vertical stability and control of the fluid particle in a countercurrent flow loop is presented. The vertical position...

We report a simple laser Doppler velocimeter in which the photoacoustic effect was used to measure the rotation wheel speed. A Doppler signal, caused by mixing a returning wave with an originally existing wave inside the CO2 laser cavity, was detected using a microphone in the laser tube....

An analysis system was developed to evaluate the sliding behavior of a liquid droplet on a hydrophobic surface. This system enables continuous and simultaneous measurement of both the sliding acceleration and shape deformation during the sliding of a liquid droplet. Moreover, the velocity vector...

This note presents a calibration-independent method for accurate complex permittivity determination of liquid materials. There are two main advantages of the proposed method over those in the literature, which require measurements of two cells with different lengths loaded by the same liquid...

In order to address the issue of spring constant calibration in viscous fluids such as water, a new method is presented that allows for the experimental calibration of bimaterial cantilever spring constants. This method is based on modeling rectangular cantilever beam bending as a function of...

A compact x-ray particle image velocimetry (PIV) system employing a medical x-ray tube as a light source was developed to measure quantitative velocity field information of opaque flows.
