Annette Oliveira, a volunteer with the 2008 New York Dragonfly and Damselfly Survey, saw a new species of dragonfly called the four-spotted pennant in Greenport, Long Island in late July and early August. A new osprey nesting structure was built at the Wickham Marsh Wildlife Management Area. A regulation was enacted in March 2008 that restricts the movement of firewood in the state.
