The article looks at the appeal of the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) campgrounds in the state of New York to campers. There are 52 public campgrounds throughout Adirondack and Catskill parks that are being managed by DEC. Among the outdoor recreation offered to campers are island camping, tent camping, boating and hiking. The benefits of camping are cited by some of the long-term camping family including the Burger family of Canandaigua.
