The article outlines the organizational factors affecting adherence to hand hygiene guidelines in the U.S. Included are the facility's physical capacity for making products available, presence of written hygiene policies, presence of role models and presence of a culture of safety. Education, timely feedback and reminders are some of the efforts that can be done to improve staff hand hygiene. The organizations which provide information on improving the measurement of hygiene performance are also cited.
