Describes the formation of volume diffraction grating in hydrogen-treated bulk germanium-doped silica glass with ultraviolet exposure. Comparison with LiNbO[sub 3] holographic storage materials; Effect of sensitization with hydrogen loading on diffraction efficiency; Relationship between refractive index change and total incident fluence.
