Focuses on the formation of a reaction complex from a van der Waals dimer precursor, HBr.I[sub 2], monitored with time resolution using standard pump-probe spectroscopy. Initiation of the reaction in an attractive region of an excited electronic state with insufficient energy to fragment; Detection of an isotope effect; Temporal discrepancies in risetimes.
