Presents a density functional approach to the study of the structure of inhomogeneous dipolar fluids consisting of dipolar hard spheres in the presence of external electric fields. Effect of short-range and long-range hard sphere-like correlations; Nonuniform density expanded in terms of spherical harmonics and the correlation function used.

The mean-field approximation, widely used in the nonlocal-density-functional theories of inhomogeneous simple fluids, is reexamined. Comparing its predictions of the density profiles of a Lennard-Jones fluid near a hard wall with those of Monte Carlo simulations reveals that the approximation is...

We present a new real space Newton-based computational approach to computing the properties of inhomogeneous polymer systems with density functional theory (DFT). The DFT is made computationally efficient by modeling the polymers as freely jointed chains and obtaining direct correlation...

We introduce a density functional approach to inhomogeneous fluids which is an interpolation between the original weighted-density approximation (WDA) and its modified version (MWDA). Our ‘‘hybridized’’ ansatz (HWDA) employs both a locally weighted density like the WDA...

The process of nucleation of vapor bubbles from a superheated liquid and of liquid droplets from a supersaturated vapor is investigated using the modified-core van der Waals model density functional theory [J. A Monte Carlo density functional theory is developed for chain molecules which both intra and intermolecularly associate. The approach can be applied over a range of chain lengths. The theory is validated for the case of an associating 4-mer fluid in a planar hard slit pore. Once validated, the...

Classical density functional theory (DFT) provides an exact variational framework for determining the equilibrium properties of inhomogeneous fluids. We developed a new density-functional theory (DFT) for inhomogeneous hyperbranched polymers that is able to describe the polydisperse degree of branching quantitatively. The topological contributions of the polymer chains to the Helmholtz free energy take into account the effect of triple...
