ABSTRACT
Discusses systematic analysis carried out for molecular phase in coherent control scheme. Proposal of two mechanisms for nonzero molecular phase; How the imaginary part of the three-photon transition operator can give different phase factors for the one- and three-photon transition amplitudes; Interactions between the final continuum states that can result in nonzero molecular phase.

Single photon transitions in molecular magnets provide valuable probes of the widths of energy levels. We use time-domain terahertz spectroscopy to measure the width of the transition from the ground state to the first excited state in Mn[sub 12] acetate in zero applied field. The width of this...

Errors in cloud optical depth retrieved from pyranometer irradiances are estimated using a fractal model of cloud inhomogeneity. The cloud field is constructed from a two-dimensional array of pixels. For each of the pixels, which are 200 3 200 m 2 in size, the radiative transfer is calculated...

A wave packet prepared on the 1 [sup 1]B[sub 1] potential-energy surface of cis-1,3,5-hexatriene (CHT) is characterized by a very short lifetime of approx. 20 fs in this state. Phonon transport in ferroelectric ceramics and single crystals has been experimentally investigated. Our measurements indicate that, in the temperature range 1.7-3.8 K studied, the effective phonon diffusion coefficient behaves as D[sub eff, sup ∞]T[sup -5] in ferroelectrics with a...

This paper presents an overview of modeling light propagation through biological media by solving the photon transport equation. Different variants of the photon transport equation (PTE) are discussed. Several methods for modeling static distributions and the transient response are presented. A...
