ABSTRACT
Examines first measurements of phase-matched second-harmonic generation along the entire phase-matching locus. Use of commercial ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLC) in evaluating phase-matching properties; Similarity of the phase-matching loci in different FLC mixtures; Categorization of the crystals as compounds with common supermolecular structure.

Optical second harmonic generation (SHG) was used to probe the structural and dynamic properties of electrically commanded alignment layers for liquid crystal displays. A phenomenological model of second-harmonic generation (SHG) in ferroelectrics in the absence of phase matching is considered.
