ABSTRACT
Observes the influence of surrounding gas pressure on the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of buckminsterfullerene (C[sub 60]). Relationship between PL spectra intensity and pressure; Agreement of the PL intensity/pressure with the Langmuir formula of a monomolecular adsorption layer; Factors attributed to the lowering of the C[sub 60] symmetry.

The kinetics of desorption from the adsorbed layers formed by two-dimensional (2D) islands and by a 2D gas of single atoms is considered for the case when the flux of adsorbate atoms from the gaseous phase reaches the surface.
