ABSTRACT
The article offers updates on the financial performance of Pier I Import Inc., a retailer of imported outdoor home accessories, furniture, and home écor, in the first quarter of 2009 in the U.S. The company has reported a net income of $29 million in which the operating results have improved by $4 million to a loss of $27 million. President and chief executive officer (CEO) Alex Smith relates that they are pleased with the result because they were better than planned.
