Investigates the synthesis of SmCo[sub 5] by the chemical reduction of Sm[sub 2]O[sub 3] during mechanical alloying. Formation of calcium oxide and amorphous samarium-cobalt phase; Exhibition of coercivity by samarium-cobalt[sub 5] phase; Removal of the milling by-products.
