The 3ν1+ν3 band of methane has been investigated using a titanium sapphire laser (TSL) spectrometer. This band has recently been studied by others, and 31 transitions were assigned [Boraas et al., J. Chem. Phys. 100, 7916 (1994)]. In this work, the tone-burst modulation spectrum at liquid...

We describe a high flux source of cold (80 K) metastable helium atoms. The source employs a direct current nozzle discharge which produces in excess of 10[sup 15] atoms/steradian/s. Liquid nitrogen cooling of the discharge source yields atomic velocities below 900 ms[sup -1]. Such a source has...

Abstract. Novel InAsSb diode lasers have been operated in an extended-cavity grating-tuned configuration. These devices operate near liquid-nitrogen temperature and emit laser light in the spectral region near lambda = 3 micro m. We have developed a LN[sub 2] cryostat that permits placement of...

Laser ablation of titanium and silicon targets immersed in liquid nitrogen was carried out using a YAG laser at 1.06 μm. Synthesized particles were collected and were characterized by TEM, SEM, EDS, XRD, and XPS. In the case of a titanium target, the synthesized particles had an atomic ratio...

Substrate temperature was observed to affect the machined hole depth and diameter during Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser machining of a copper substrate. We studied the blind holes drilled on copper specimens by multiple femtosecond laser (fs) pulses under two temperature conditions, namely the...

We measure the lifetime of the zone-center 340 GHz longitudinal phonon mode in a GaAs-AlAs superlattice excited and probed with femtosecond laser pulses. By comparing measurements conducted at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature, we separate the intrinsic (phonon-phonon scattering)...
