ABSTRACT
Presents the design and theory of operation of near field scanning polarizing optical microscope. Use of electro-optic premodulation of light to generate two complementary images; Effect of Pockels cell on the amplitude of the sinusoidal phase modulation; Existence of small protrusions in the tip region.
