Measures the optical spectra for transparent and colorless TbAlO[sub 3] single crystals grown by the Czochralski method in a reducing atmosphere. Display of strong Tb[sup 3+] emission spectrum; Assignment of all fine structures in absorption and emission spectra; Observation of concentration quenching in Tb[sub x]Gd[sub 1-x]AlO[sub 3] system.
