Examines the columnar defects in YBa[sub 2]Cu[sub 3]O[sub 7-delta] single crystals irradiated with different high energy heavy ions. Observation of aligned tracks for tin and gold projectiles; Formation of spherical damage regions upon irradiation with 1.4 gigaelectron volt; Use of flux-melt method to grow the thin flake single crystals.

The understanding of microscopic mechanisms ion-solid interactions and defect creation and evolution under ion irradiation is complicated by many parameters involved in the formation of stable radiation induced complexes [1]. Origin of the Raman mode in nanocrystalline zinc oxide in the vicinity of A1 (LO) phonon mode induced by energetic heavy ions is reported. The evolution of this mode in the irradiated films is ascribed to the effect of disorder and the high density of lattice defects induced by irradiation. The...

SiC single crystals were implanted with Fe ions and the effects of implantation temperature, Fe concentration, and subsequent swift heavy ion irradiation on both dopant and damage depth distributions were evaluated by using RBS and channelling techniques. It is found that an increase of the...

We have designed and implemented a rugged, simple double-ribbon buncher grid that has greatly increased the mean time between failure over wire mesh designs. This grid is used to prebunch several microamperes of beams of heavy ions such as 127I or 79Br at 200 keV, for injection into a MP Tandem...

Transmission electron microscope studies of Ti-doped, congruent lithium niobate (LiNbO3) have shown that extended structural faults are only present within the Ti-diffused layer (i.e., the wave guiding region). Structural faults have also been observed in undoped Li-deficient LiNbO3, though not...
