Examines the epitaxial growth of YBa[sub 2]Cu[sub 3]O[sub 7] thin films on gallium arsenide substrate with magnesium oxide buffer layers. Deposition of the films by thermal coevaporation; Lack of epitaxial outgrowth; Importance of encapsulating free sample surface to prevent arsenic contamination from the gas phase.
