ABSTRACT
Since January 2007, the topic of free trade with Europe has reappeared on the Canadian political scene. First, the government of Quebec started promoting a free trade agreement with the European Union. Second, the Canadian government entered into a free trade agreement with the countries of the European Free Trade Association: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Sweden. With a view to better understanding what Canada (and Quebec) could gain by negotiating such agreements, this paper assesses the impact of free trade agreements with Europe on Canadian trade.
