ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the role of financial planners in helping small-business clients develop growth strategies. According to Diahann Lassus, president of Lassus Wherley & Associates: "When planners work in tandem with their small-business clients, the planner's input in helping them develop a long-term vision of their company can be priceless." Randy Waesche, president of Resource Management Inc., recounts his role as advisor to a small-business client in the oil and gas industry whose firm he helped take from a small start-up to a New York Stock Exchange-listed company in about four years. Waesche worked with his client to assemble some "very top flight talent," he says. "We structured a compensation package for the recruits that was significantly below the market average, but they were compensated, despite some very significant ties attached to it, in stock of the company."
