ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a standardized problem-solving system implemented by the office furniture manufacturing firm Metalworks Great Openings based in Ludington, Michigan. The lean manufacturing practice of the firm is described, which involves the establishment of value streams and providing bonus to each stream. The problem-solving system involves compilation of Pareto charts on problems on a three-month basis. Reduced workplace injuries, customer lead times and complaints are among the benefits of the continuous enhancement activities of Metalworks.
