ABSTRACT
Analyzes the far-infrared absorption spectra of water, ammonia and chloroform calculated through the instantaneous normal mode (INM) theory. Three procedures used in weighing the INM density of states to yield absorption intensities; Contribution of unstable modes to absorption with imaginary frequencies found to be significant at low frequencies.
