ABSTRACT
This article discusses the Chinese perception of European perspective, which was brought to China by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and was closely associated with the broader missionary and cultural frameworks. Based on the sources illustrating Chinese responses, this study argues that the central factor of these Chinese responses indicates a perception of perspective on a technical level, and that the Chinese impression reveals a complex of illusion and realism caused by this level, which may have demonstrated a profound perception in the realm of religion. Illusion should point to a psychological and anthropological view of this perception, rather than to a question of scientific objectivity.
