ABSTRACT
The article presents a political, economic and business outlook for Thailand in 2009. The government's decision to annul the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit on April 11 was highly embarrassing which pushed the government to take extraordinary steps for the next attempted meeting. The ongoing political turmoil has impacted the tourism sector which contributes some 6% to gross domestic product (GDP). In addition, excise taxes on alcoholic drinks was raised in early May.
