ABSTRACT
The article examines the correlation between Judge Sonia Sotomayor's thinking and the U.S. Democratic Party's identity-politics wing. According to Sotomayor, the cardinal duty of judges to be impartial is a mere aspiration because it denies the fact that they are by their experiences making different choices than others. It is noted that Sotomayor, in her speech, did not overtly suggest that judges should play identity politics.
