This study explains the fact of export performance discussed in the literature of export performance research over the case of companies acting in the textile sector in Kahramanmaras. According to contingency based approach examines the relationship between export performances of these two kinds of firms and their external environment, export channels, strategic orientations and total fit obtained through these data. According to the research findings, the hypothesis stating that conservative firms have a significant relationship between their level of export performance satisfaction and total fit obtained through their strategic orientation, external environment, and structure of distribution channel is accepted. Result contradicts with the traditional approach in the literature. And the reason behind this is the fact that the traditional approach is constituted by the research findings showing that entrepreneurial firms have always higher performance compared to conservative ones.
