At the time when the Turks opted for Islam a classical literature, which was a common product of the Arabs and Iranians, had already developed and thus some certain literature principles had already been established. There were some common and unalterable rules in language, meter, literary forms and types, understanding of life and universe, and aesthetical glance and it was impossible to go beyond these rules. Regardless of the degree of conservation of its cultural and civilizational elements, every nation which entered the Islamic culture and civilization would be obliged to express their feelings and thoughts with those patterns. Not only the Turks but also the other nations which have entered the Islamic circles have been compelled to obey these prototypes of the literature of the Islamic community. Iranian poetry, after acceptance of Islam, started with taking Arab poetry as example and has developed with some additions. Likewise, Turkish literature has started with modeling Iranian Islamic poetry and has developed with its peculiar utterance depth. This paper dwells upon our relations with Iranian literature through our literature history and it explores these relations with their general features.
