ABSTRACT
The article announces the month of May as National Hepatitis Awareness Month in the U.S. and May 19, 2009 as World Hepatitis Day. Viral hepatitis is said to be a large but often underrecognized burden of disease and death. Statistics on hepatitis cases and deaths are provided. The importance of vaccination and timely screening is stressed.
