The significant financial losses of original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and component makers are attributed to declining truck sales. Carriers are said to be sidelining their excess truck capacity in an effort to deal with the declining demand. Thousands of workers were laid off and the Sterling brand of trucks was eliminated by DTNA.
