ABSTRACT
The article discusses the implications of eliminating restrictions for immigration from third countries or countries outside the European Union (EU) in 2009. It refers to the advantages of immigration for the work force in EU countries, which have suffered from shortage in the qualified work force in the past decades. The European Commission has proposed a common policy which would lift the current restrictions that have become a roadblock to legal immigration from EU-member states.
