ABSTRACT
The article explores the leader-member exchange (LMX) theory. It notes that it is based on three major leadership skills which include respect, trust, and sense of obligation. It states that LMX concentrates on the interactions between leaders and followers. It points out that leaders need to recognize the volunteers' contribution to build trust and motivate members to grow. Furthermore, LMX theory stresses that leaders need to be fair to all volunteers. It mentions that mentoring and exemplifying as a role model will lead to the surfacing of new volunteers and leaders.
