ABSTRACT
Reports on a study of a platelet ADP receptor, designated P2Y, and provides evidence that a patient with a bleeding disorder has a defect in this gene. Role of platelets in maintaining normal haemostasis; How ADP mediates platelet aggregation through its actions with two G-protein-coupled receptor subtypes; Suggestion that cloning of the P2Y[sub12] receptor should facilitate the development of better antiplatelet agents to treat cardiovascular diseases.

An encyclopedia entry for "platelet aggregation" is presented. It refers to the grouping of platelets that occurs when a blood vessel is damaged. It noted that platelet aggregation is the first step of blood clotting, helping close injured vessels. Drugs that help lessen platelet aggregation...

The majority of households in rural India still rely on unprocessed solid biomass for domestic energy. The aim of this study was to investigate whether chronic exposure to biomass smoke causes activation of leukocytes and the formation of leukocyte–platelet aggregates. We conducted flow...

Platelet aggregation plays a key role in vascular thrombosis. Antiplatelet drug therapy is commonly used for the prevention of abnormal platelet aggregation. So, measuring platelet aggregation function is critically important in clinical field. Here, we introduce a scalable evaluation method of...

Background Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) solutions alter blood coagulation, mainly platelet function and fibrinogen polymerization. Haemostasis can also be impaired by dilutional-hyperchloraemic acidosis induced by the HES carrier solution. We hypothesized that a saline-based tetrastarch carrier...
