Volar Locked Plating Improved Wrist Range of Movement More Than External Fixation for Distal Radial Fracture

ABSTRACT
The article reports on the results of research which was conducted in an effort to determine how bridging external fixation compared with locked volar plate and screw fixation in patients with displaced fracture of the distal part of the radius. Researchers conducted a randomized, unblinded controlled trial. They found that in patients with a displaced fracture of the distal part of the radius, locked volar plate and screw fixation led to a more improved range of movement outcome and fewer physical therapy visits soon after treatment and that only improved pronation was sustained over longer follow-up.
