ABSTRACT
The article discusses the relative benefits and risks for mother and infant of the treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) with oral diabetes agents or insulin. Oral hypoglycemic agents as glyburide and metformin are increasingly being used in pregnancy. However insulin is given as the treatment of choice for women with GDM. Randomized trials do not show differences in outcomes between oral diabetes agents and insulin for treatment of gestational diabetes.
