ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the detection of the spiny water flea in Great Sacandaga Lake in Adirondacks in New York City. It notes that the discovery serves as the first confirmation of the flea in a New York water body outside the Great Lakes. The flea is native to Europe, was first discovered in Lake Huron in 1984 and poses a threat to the native species of the lake. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) urges the public to clean their fishing and boating equipment before using it in another body of water to prevent the spread of the flea.
