ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a study which concludes that current mandates of ethanol production should be reconsidered for their effectiveness in controlling potential negative environmental and social consequences. The report titled "Rapid Assessment on Biofuels and the Environment: Overview and Key Findings," of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment, states that some biofuel production systems can increase greenhouse gas emissions compared to the fossil fuels they replace.
