ABSTRACT
The article discusses how secondary English teaching and a teacher's identity produced monocultural teaching practices. The author says that school-base professional development can encourage educators to effectively teach and respond to a diverse student base as seen from a study conducted at the Ford Secondary School in Ontario involving the personal, educational, and social background of the English teacher, a class and the role of rubrics in learning outcomes.
