The article explores the transformative approaches to advocacy for transgender rights. It looks at cross-cultural engagement to suggest alternative ways that can be used by the legal system to dismantle harmful sex or gender norms. The concept of gender fluidity and the legal strategies used by transgender advocates are discussed. It is noted that the contextualization of gender norms within particular cultural and legal traditions may allow the transgender movement to acquire necessary insight into normative alternatives to repressive gender norms.
