ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance of special care for the elderly in the Netherlands. It is said that special knowledge about pathophysiology and disease management are needed to give the elderly patient adequate care especially in high risk circumstances, such as surgery. It also highlights the importance of monitoring the blood pressure among the elderly because low blood pressure is harmful for it is associated with increased cognitive dysfunction, renal failure and total mortality.
