Aluminum Producers Take Action to Curb Costs During Downturn

The article provides information on the actions of several aluminum producers to curb the production costs during the recession in North America. These include Alcoa Inc. which plans to reduce its smelting output by 750,000 metric per year and 1.5 million tons for alumina production to cut cost. Another is Century Aluminum Co. which restructure its workforce by cutting 13 percent of its salaried personnel. Last is Kaiser Aluminum Corp. which decided to close its operations at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
